About this beach
Quatro Ilhas faces the open ocean and takes swell with force — which made it the local surfers' stronghold and a regular venue for competitions. On swell days the beach is a show in itself, even if you only watch from the sand.
The name comes from the islands cut out along the horizon, which give the view a depth few beaches have. The sand is wide and firm, great for walking end to end in the late afternoon.
Worth keeping in mind: this is not a swimming-pool sea. There are waves, and there can be current. For swimming with small children, the sheltered coves on the other side of the peninsula are the better call. Here the invitation is a different one — a board, wind in your face and an open horizon.
Consistent waves and competitions — the beach surfers head to first.
The outline that names the beach gives the view a rare sense of depth.
A wide, long stretch, perfect to walk end to end at dusk.
