About this beach
Sheltered between rocky headlands, Praia de Bombinhas has water that is unusually calm and clear — the kind where you can see your own feet while standing in it. It's the town's central beach, with the busiest waterfront and the highest concentration of restaurants, guesthouses, shops and beach kiosks just steps from the sand.
It's also the starting point for most boat trips: schooners and dive boats leave from here for Arvoredo Island and the neighboring coves. On the rocks at either end of the beach, a snorkel is already enough to run into schools of fish — no need to go far.
Because it's flat, shielded from the southerly wind and mostly free of strong currents, it's the natural pick if you're travelling with children or putting on a dive mask for the first time. In summer it's the busiest beach in Bombinhas — which, for a lot of people, is precisely part of the charm.
Shallow for a good stretch, with little current for most of the year.
Schooners and dive trips to Arvoredo set off from the waterfront itself.
The best-served waterfront in town, with restaurants and shops right around the corner.
